Flannel Friday - Señor Rattlesnake Learns to Fly

It's Friday once again! This week, I'm featuring a flannel board made by one of my very talented coworkers, Miss Kelly!

"Señor Rattlesnake Learns to Fly: A Tale from Mexico" from Thirty-Three Multicultural Tales to Tell by Pleasant Despain. Little Rock, AR: August House, 1993.

Snake has always wanted to fly. His friends the buzzards decide to help him achieve his dream with the aid of a well-placed stick.

Unfortunately, not everyone is as nice as the buzzards.

Helpful Dove has some advice for Snake on how to deal with Eagle.

But does Snake listen to Dove? You'll have to find out!

Thanks Kelly for the great pictures!

Don't forget to check the roundup (hosted by Lisa) for other Flannel Friday submissions. Visit us on Facebook and stop by our Pinterest page to see our new changes.

Flannel Friday Round Up - August 17

Library Quine (Loons and Quines @ Librarytime) shows us just how cute piggies can be with This Little Piggie.

Sarah Mc (Read, Sarah, Read) gives us her version Pete the Cat. There's no doubt that Pete the Cat is a favorite of Flannel Friday!

So you've made some awesome flannel boards. Now how do you store them? Sarah (Read It Again) has some great tips on keeping your flannels organized.

Sarah (Read Rabbit Read) retells the story of The Gingerbread Man. Let's see if he can outrun the sly old fox this time!

The jungle's getting loud with Lisa (Libraryland) and her flannel board version of Let's Hear You Roar.

Bridget (What is Bridget Reading?) shares with us her interactive board for the poem Goodnight Mummy.

Lucy (In the Children's Room) invented a color matching game using paint chips and clothes pins. Now let's get matching!

Sandy (Storytime Sparks) spices things up with Five Green (or Red) Peppers.

It's a jungle out there, but K (Storytime ABCs) proves it can be fun with A Rumble in the Jungle.

Amanda (Toddler Tales) goes buggy with Ladybugs! Ladybugs!

We'll all be drooling over Six Cranberries (sixcranberries) delicious Burgers! flannel.

And Mollie (that's me!) lets everyone know about changes made to the Flannel Friday Pinterest boards.

Thank you to all who participated this week! We'll see everyone next Friday!

Flannel Friday - Changes to Our Pinterest Boards

For those of you who frequent our Flannel Friday Pinterest boards, you'll notice that we've made some changes lately. In order to keep up with the growing Flannel Friday movement, we've made a few adjustments to our pinning process. These changes will enable us to keep expanding and allow more people to join in.

Our first big change is the addition of a This Week board. Here you'll find the pins from the current week, making it easy to see the new submissions.

The other change is bigger. In the past, each roundup host has pinned the images from the week's submissions. For this to happen, the hosts needed to have their own Pinterest account and had to be added as a pinner to each board (all 55 of them!). This can be time-consuming and can lead to confusion down the road, so we've simplified the process.

We've created the position of a Pinning Fairy Godmother (PFG), similar to the Flannel Friday Fairy Godmother (FFFG). The role of the PFG will be:
  1. To be the PFG for two months. Each PFG will be given access to the Flannel Friday Pinterest account.
  2. To pin the week's submissions to all appropriate boards.
  3. To create a special board for the current week's pins and delete the previous week's board.
The advantages to these changes are many. Those of you who would like to be involved but don't have a blog to host with can volunteer to be the PFG. Past hosts will revel in having their board lists decreased and the Flannel Friday boards will be much easier to maintain.

To past hosts who have access to the Flannel Friday boards: we will be taking your names off of the boards. If you have the time, feel free to take your own names off of the lists by editing each board and clicking the x next to your name.

We want to thank everyone who has been a big help in making these changes. We're always listening to advice and appreciate everything the community has done. As always, please continue to give us your suggestions and/or questions so we can make this group a valuable resource for all users.

--The Flannel Friday Group

I'll be hosting this week's round up, so look for it later tonight. Read all about Flannel Friday on our blog, check out our Pinterest page, and join our Facebook group.

Flannel Friday - Don't Stare at the Bear

Flannel Friday is here yet again, and this time it has brought us a fit of the giggles.

That's right, folks, this week's post is all about underwear!

I found the rhyme in Storytime Crafts: Crazy Days by Kathryn Totten (Upstart Books, 2004). The accompanying craft is a teddy bear paper doll, complete with underwear. I doubled the size of the bear on the copier and used it as a template for the flannel board.

Poor bear! He's dressed only in his underwear. Everybody is staring!

Never fear! He found some pants, and now he loves to dance.

For more Flannel Friday, check out the roundup hosted by Liz at Read Mrs. D. If that's not enough to feed your felt need, stop by the Flannel Friday Blog, join our Facebook group, and see our Pinterest boards.
