Storytime - It's Time!

Toddler

Books

Songs / Rhymes: “Good Morning”, “Hello, How Are You?”, “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, “Open, Shut Them”, “Hickory Dickory Dock” on the felt board, “I’m a Little Cuckoo Clock” on the felt board, “I Wiggle My Fingers”, and “The More We Get Together”.

Craft: Watches. Materials: cardboard roll sections, clock face on paper, crayons, glue, and tape. The toddlers glued their clock faces to the middle of the cardboard roll. When they were finished, they had watches to wear and check the time on. The idea came from Red Ted Art. The clock faces came from SuperKids.

Preschool

Books:

Songs / Rhymes: “Welcome to the Library”, “Hello, How Are You?”, “Hi There, So Glad You Came”, “A Tooty Tah”, “Open, Shut Them”, “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, “Head and Shoulders”, “I Wiggle My Fingers”, and “The More We Get Together”.

Special Activity: The preschoolers helped me tell the time using a clock on the felt board. They learned that the little hand tells the hour and the big hand tells the minutes.

Craft: Build-a-Clock. Materials: printouts of a blank clock face, clock hands, and numbers, metal brads, crayons, glue, scissors, and tape. The preschoolers cut out the numbers and glued them to the correct spots on their clocks. They cut out the clock hands, poked holes into them and the clock face, and made movable hands to practice telling time. The idea came from MrsWilliamsonKinders.

Songs
Hickory Dickory Dock
Hickory, dickory, dock
(clasp hands together and swing gently back and forth)
The mouse ran up the clock.
(run fingers up so hands end up above head)
The clock struck one,
          (clap hands once)
The mouse ran down,
(bring arms back down in front)
Hickory, dickory, dock.

I’m a Little Cuckoo Clock!
Tick tock, tick tock
I’m a little cuckoo clock
Tick tock, tick tock
It’s one o’clock!
CUCKOO!
Tick tock, tick tock
I’m a little cuckoo clock
Tick tock, tick tock
It’s two o’clock!
CUCKOO! CUCKOO!
