Flannel Friday 12/02/16: It's Not That Cold Outside

IT'S SNOWING IT'S SNOWING IT'S SNOWING IT'S SNOWING!

Okay, maybe not right this very minute, but now that I'm in Colorado, I expect it to happen all the time. This is ski country, right?!

For this week's extra special Winter Extravaganza Flannel Friday, I made a flannel that can accompany a song I'll be using in a program in February.

It's Not That Cold Outside
(to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb)
I don't want to wear my coat, wear my coat, wear my coat
I don't want to wear my coat
It's not that cold outside.

Repeat with scarf, boots, mittens, and hat
Aaaa CHOOOOOoooo!

It can also be used for:

 Boots, Jacket, Scarf, and Hat
Sung to: “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes”
Boots, jacket, scarf, and hat,
Scarf and hat.
Boots, jacket, scarf, and hat,
Scarf and hat.
In wintertime we dress like that.
Boots, jacket, scarf, and hat,
Scarf and hat.

Wendy from Flannel Board Fun is hosting the roundup today. Don't forget to check her blog later to see all of the submissions from this week.

Flannel Friday Roundup: November 4, 2016

It's roundup day! Let's take a look at the fabulous Friday felt fabrications for Friday.

WHAT'S THAT?! YOU'LL HAVE TO SPEAK UP! I'm having difficulty hearing you over these NOISY ROBOTS made by Kathryn from Fun with Friends at Storytime!

Whew, it's a little quieter now. We can hear these Five Christmas Cookies made by Kate at Felt Board Magic chanting their rhyme. Don't eat too many, or you'll get a tummy ache. She's even included a pattern so you can bake more this holiday season.

After all those cookies, I need to brush my teeth. Never fear, because these Five Little Teeth also made by Kate at Felt Board Magic are here!

If you're worried about the Christmas rush, we have an adorable fall felt board for you. Mr. Keith from Felt-tastic Flannelboard Funtime has made these cute leaves for Autumn Leaves Are Falling Down. And, as if you need more convincing, there's coffee involved.

Wendy from Flannel Board Fun shows us just what might be hiding in those leaves: Little Snail. This Inspired By Flannel Friday idea actually uses real leaves!

Our last post is from the amazing Miss Mary Liberry (I say this not just because we work together, although it might be super awkward if I didn't). She's made a felt version of Brian Won's Hooray For Hat with super cute animals.

Flannel Friday Roundup 09/16/2016

Flannel Friday has come around once again! Was it just me, or was this week crazy? Let's blame it on the harvest moon, shall we?

Emily from Literary Hoots is getting royally silly with her "There's a Castle in the Middle of the Moat". Try this the next time you do a fairy tales or kingdoms storytime.

Keith from Felt-tastic Flannelboard Funtime shared his version of Dog's Colorful Day. The pieces are so detailed! They bring a whole new life to this favorite story and Keith even added motions for more fun.

Shawn from Read, Rhyme & Sing celebrates International Dot Day with a new twist on the old classic Little Mouse: Robot, Robot!

Speaking of Dot Day, Lisa M. from Libraryland turned Eric Litwin's new book, The Nuts: Sing and Dance in Your Polka Dot Pants into a fun flannel board. I love that she didn't use felt, but foam and puffy paint, instead. Flannels can be made out of so many materials!

Wendy from Flannel Board Fun has a two-fer for us today! Her Pot of Songs is a fun way to add a little bit of flexibility to storytimes, especially when you have a wiggly crowd! She's also getting in the holiday spirit with these fun Christmas finger puppets.

Jane from Piper Loves the Library shares what is probably the cutest program I have seen in a long time (at least since the stuffed animal sleepover craze). It's called Talk to the Animals and I guarantee it will make you squee with delight.

Fall is almost upon us, and Kate from Felt Board Magic has two apple-tastic posts to share this week. A-P-P-L-E is a popular piggyback of B-I-N-G-O, but Kate has added her own flavor to it with an extra "crunchiness." Ten Red Apples is a cute song that also introduces addition and subtraction. Yummy!

And lastly we have Kathryn from Fun with Friends at Storytime with a fun balloon song, Counting Balloons, that will be perfect to use on the windy fall days that are coming soon.

Flannel Friday Roundup June 17, 2016

Friday, Friday, gotta get Flannel on Friday!

Lisa from Thrive After Three is kicking summer off with a flannel version of What This Story Needs is a Crunch and a Munch by Emma J. Virjan. silly rhymes + picnics = a fantastic Summer.

Let's welcome long time reader, first time poster, Michelle from Friday Story Time! She has turned Jim Averbeck's Except If into a gorgeous flannel board. Thanks for joining the posting fun, Michelle!

Summer means camping, especially to this poor woman stuck in the Arizona heat! Emily from Literary Hoots is sharing her love of getting back to nature with A Camping We Will Go. Stay cool, Emily!

Take a break from the heat with Wendy from Flannel Board Fun and her gingerbread set. This beautiful piece of art looks (almost) good enough to eat!

Kate from Felt Board Magic has two great ideas for us this week. First, she puts a new spin on Little Mouse with her Little Worm Hide and Seek. Her set of Five Cheeky Monkeys Swinging in a Tree (one of my favorites) is crazy cute! I am almost rooting for the little fellas this time.

It's not summer without a great fruit salad! Luckily, Laura from Literacious has just the thing. She's turned the song from Jbrary into a flannel board and even has a template to share. Yummy yummy! (And if you get that, you are probably like me and watch WAY too much Wiggles).

Mr. Keith from Felt-tastic Flannelboard Funtime (awesome blog name, btw) has made a flannel of Animal Colors. If you tell me you've seen cuter flannels, I just don't believe you.

Lastly we have a Flannel Friday veteran, Cate from Storytiming, with her super awesome octopus that she uses for Herman the Helper by Robert Kraus. Happy Cephalopod Week, everyone!

That's all we wrote, folks. Thank you so much to our participants this week and thank you all for being a part of Flannel Friday.

Flannel Friday - All Around the Swamp

Hello everyone! As some of you know, I started working in a new library near Denver, CO. It's been a big change, but I am LOVING it so far. Especially since it brings me closer to our Flannel Friday founder, Melissa from Mel's Desk, and Mary from Miss Mary Liberry!

I can't quite call this my own submission. Like all great artists, I steal borrow from those around me. In this case, everything is entirely Melissa's, I just repurposed it. I needed ideas for a dinosaur storytime, and low and behold, she had already done most of the legwork! There was even a flannel already created that I stole borrowed for this. That's right, it's literally her actual flannel that she made for her storytimes. Sharing an office wall with her is awesome.

All Around the Swamp
Sung to: "The Wheels on the Bus"
Pteranodon’s wings went flap, flap, flap
Flap, flap, flap,
Flap, flap, flap,
Pteranodon’s wings went flap, flap, flap
All around the swamp.
Triceratop’s horns went poke, poke, poke…
Apatosaurus’ mouth went munch, munch, munch…

My additions:
Tyrannosaurus goes roar, roar, roar
Stegosaurus goes stomp, stomp, stomp

--Melissa from Mel's Desk

Here's the link to the dinosaur template and you can find the link to Melissa's dinosaur storytime in the credit above.

Emily from Literary Hoots is hosting the roundup today. Don't forget to check her blog later to see all of the submissions from this week.

Happy Birthday, Flannel Friday!

School Visit: Dr. Seuss' Birthday

Happy fifth birthday to Flannel Friday! I thank my lucky stars every day that I found such a welcoming group of people who are just as enthusiastic about working with children as I am. Thank you all for continuing to make Flannel Friday a fun and engaging space!

This week, we had a special daycare group visit us to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday. Instead of reading books by the Dr. himself, I chose to read past winners of the Geisel Award.

Books: You Are (Not) Small by Anna Kang and The Watermelon Seed by Greg Pizzoli

Songs / Rhymes: Welcome to the Library”, “Hello, How Are You?”, “Bread and Butter”, “Open, Shut Them”, “Zoom, Zoom, Zoom”, “The Banana Song”, and “I Wiggle My Fingers”.

Songs/Rhymes

Bread and Butter
Bread and butter
Marmalade and jam
Let's say hello as high as we can
(whisper: hello)
Repeat with:
...low as we can
...fast as we can
...slow as we can
...loud as we can
...quiet as we can
--Jbrary

Zoom, Zoom, Zoom
Zoom, zoom, zoom
We're going to the moon.
Zoom, zoom, zoom
We're going to the moon.
If you want to take a trip
climb aboard my rocket ship.
Zoom, zoom, zoom
We're going to the moon.
In 5, 4, 3, 2, 1: Blast off!
--Jbrary

I am hosting this week's Flannel Friday Birthday Celebration Bonanza, so check back to see what everyone else has shared this week. Also, feel free to stop by our Facebook page and tell us how you found Flannel Friday and how long you've been a part of our group.

Happy Fifth Birthday, Flannel Friday!

It's Flannel Friday's Fifth birthday!!! This week we'll be featuring new and old party themed submissions.

Our founder, Melissa from Mel's Desk, shares her birthday set, complete with hats, candles, cupcakes, and presents!

Kathryn from Fun with Friends at Storytime has some birthday presents for us to unwrap, along with lots of fun birthday activities and books.

Wendy has an exciting line up for us this week: Little Gorilla, Cupcakes, More Cupcakes, and PRESENTS!

Stop! Go! Wait, what?! Laura from Literacious is up to one crazy party game with her story about The Crazy Traffic Light.

Jaime has a felt version of the classic picture book, Happy Birthday, Moon by Frank Asch at Miss Jaime's Library Journeys.

Jane shares with us how she found Flannel Friday and her secret, no-bake cupcake recipe (spoiler alert: they're made out of felt).

Lastly, I'm sharing my twist on the Dr. Seuss' Birthday storytime. Disclaimer: no Dr. Seuss books were read during the performing of this storytime.

Thank you so much for celebrating with us! I started this blog in order to participate in Flannel Friday, and I can't even tell you how many ways it's changed my life. I've become a better librarian, I've met so many people, and I've had so many new experiences. Here's to many more years of flanneling on Fridays!

Flannel Friday Roundup - January 8, 2016

It's the first roundup of 2016! I hope everyone had a great December and is ready for what the new year will bring.

First up, it's Lauren with Dinosaur, Dinosaur, a redo of the classic "Little Mouse". What door is he behind? Can you guess? ROAR!!!

Wendy has made a great number of awesome flannels to start the year off with a bang!
Cowboy needs help getting dressed! Can you come to his rescue? Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons are back to help us count down to our belly buttons. Are you hungry for some pie? You will be after you see this delicious rendition of "Little Mouse". Lastly, make some veggie soup for these cold winter days.

Thank you for ringing in the new year right with Flannel Friday!
