Flannel Friday - Six Yummy Cookies

Hooray for Flannel Day!  I didn't expect to have a post for today, but my creativity came through at the very last minute (fifteen minutes before we closed last night, actually).

I was planning to read The Duckling Gets a Cookie!? by Mo Willems in storytime, and wanted a cookie-themed activity to do. I already had one cookie felt board, but I felt like doing something new. I quickly found a picture of a chocolate chip cookie, printed out six of them, laminated them, and glued magnets to the back.

Now all I needed was a poem to go along with it. Thus, "Six Yummy Cookies" was born at approximately 3:00 AM last night (you know you're a children's librarian when...). Enjoy!

"Six Yummy Cookies"
Mama made six cookies and she placed them on a tray.
Let's listen in and hear what they say!
The first cookie said, "I bet I'm really good!"
The second cookie said, "I'd like some milk if I could."
The third cookie said, "I'm going to be great!"
The fourth cookie said, "I hope we're not too late."
The fifth cookie said, "It's getting hot in here."
The sixth cookie said, "The time is almost near!"
Then DING went the bell and out came the tray,
And the six yummy cookies were gobbled up right away.

I also used the same clip art picture, just a tad bit bigger, and taped it to the top of a tiny frisbee from Dave and Busters. We used it to play "Who Stole the Cookies From the Cookie Jar?".

This week's Flannel Friday Round Up is hosted by Katie at storytime katie. Want to become more involved? Check out the Flannel Friday blog, join our Facebook group (now at 300+ members!), and go pin-crazy on our Pinterest page.

If anyone's ready for a laugh, here's what my 3:00 AM poetry effort looks like. Don't mind the crayon, it's all I had available...

Flannel Friday - Ice Cream

Happy Summer to you, Flannel Friday goers! In celebration of the upcoming season, I offer you this delightful treat: "Down Around the Corner at the Ice Cream Shop".

I came up with this song after I was trying to find some short ice cream rhymes to use. The ice cream cones were made using clip art as a template. The sprinkles are made out of puffy paint.

Were five ice cream cones with some sprinkles on top.
Along came a child with a dollar to pay.
He bought one and took it away.

It's my goal to make a set of my own, too. Instead of using paint to make the sprinkles, though, I'll most likely sew them on instead.

Lisa is hosting the roundup today at her blog, Libraryland. Stop by and see our awesome new website for Flannel Friday! We're chatting about all things storytime on our Facebook page and getting pinning happy on Pinterest.

The toddlers were given "fruit" squares and a pie template from Mailbox magazine.

For the preschool class, I set up each table with four half sheets of paper, four cupcakes, two glue sticks, and a big cup of sequins. The preschoolers went to town decorating their cupcakes just so.

Flannel Friday - Cookies

Flannel Friday is here once again!

My post this week features another "retro" flannel board, one I made when I first started doing storytimes. Melissa from Mel's Desk has also made a version of this.

As you can see from the flashy orange felt below, I am using my awesome miniaturized felt board from Anne at So Tomorrow

Don't forget to look for the roundup hosted by Andrea from rovingfiddlehead kidlit. If you miss the roundup, never fear, you can look for it at our Flannel Friday Facebook page, too. Also, see the beautiful pictures of our flannel boards at Pinterest.

Happy Friday, everyone!
