Inspired By Flannel Friday - Things That Go

Here's a Flannel Friday Two-fer! Both were inspired by other Flannel Friday-ers.

The first is "Where Does This Go?". Andrea at rovingfiddlehead kidlit came up with this excellent game. Place the vehicles in the incorrect spot, and the kids will have loads of fun telling you that you're wrong.

The next is from Katie at Recipe for Reading. I've change the wording a little, but the premise is the same. I printed out the train outlines from Crayola's website onto colored paper, then laminated them and cut them out. I taped popsicle sticks to the back. I used these with all three groups, changing it a bit for the preschoolers to make it a bit more difficult. I taught them the ASL sign for each color before we sang the song.

Going for a Ride In My Train
Sung to: Ten Little Indians
Going for a ride in my little ______ train
Going for a ride in my little ______ train
Going for a ride in my little ______ train
Chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga
Choo, choo!
Insert color of train.

  2. I love, love, love the first idea! I'm definitely stealing it ~ with proper acknowledgement to fellow Flannel Friday-ers, of course!

That is just one of the things that really impressed me about the group ~ how everyone tries so hard to give credit for the inspiration. You ladies are AWESOME!

I love the train song, too! I'm sure I will be chugging down the track with my storytime friends at one of my storytimes in the near future. :-) Thanks!

  3. There's just something about a little felt sailboat that makes me so happy. I blame the pregnancy hormones.

  4. Thanks for your Two-fer Mollie. I think I must have missed Andrea's version of 'things that go' first time around, so I'm going back to check it out. My Storytime guys (and gals) will love both, and I've been promising them some vehicles for a while. so here I go ...!

  5. That little train bed and bit of road is just so sweet. Love this idea, and it looks pretty easy to make! So many flannels, so little time....

  6. I used the Where Does This Go flannel board a few weeks ago and the kids really liked. Both of your flannels look really good!
