Flannel Friday Reboot - Five Birthday Candles

Happy Birthday to me (tomorrow)!!!

I posted an Inspired By flannel waaaaay back in November of 2011 called Five Birthday Candles. The post was inspired by Storytime Katie. I used the flannel today in storytime, but was in a rush and didn't have time to memorize Jane Cobb's rhyme again. I made up a super simple, yet interactive, chant to go along with it:

Five Birthday Candles
Five birthday candles on a birthday cake
Let's blow one out...
WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Now there are four birthday candles on a birthday cake...
--Miss Mollie

I'm hosting the round up this week, so be sure to check back later. You can also find Flannel Friday on Facebook, Pinterest, and at our Flannel Friday Blog. If you're new to Flannel Friday, don't forget to add your name and location to our Where Is Flannel Friday map.

Inspired By Flannel Friday - Five Fat Hot Dogs

Friday, Friday, gotta be Flannel Friday!

This week's flannel board was inspired by Tracey from 1234 More Storytimes. I used clip art, just like Tracey, for the hot dogs. You can find the clip art here.

All of a sudden, one went
BAM!

Inspired by Flannel Friday - Ten Little Babies

It's Friday once again! This week I present to you a project inspired by Melissa at Mel's Desk and Anna at Future Librarian Superhero: Ten Little Babies. Who doesn't love babies?!

My set was made using multicultural paper and a permanent marker. When I was all finished with their faces, I laminated the set and attached magnets to the back. Enjoy!

Ten Little Babies
Sing to: Ten Little Indians
One little, two little, three little babies
Four little, five little, six little babies
Seven little, eight little, nine little babies
Ten baby girls and boys!
--Mel's Desk*

*I made a change to the song to make it more interactive for the toddlers and preschoolers. Change the last line of the song to:
Ten little babies ____________ (eating/crying/with stinky diapers/sleeping, shh!).

Five Little Babies
Five little babies were playing one day
One saw a ball, and he crawled away
Four little babies were playing one day
One saw a rattle, and she crawled away
Three little babies were playing one day
One saw a blanket, and he crawled away
Two little babies were playing one day
One saw a teddy, and she crawled away
One little baby was playing one day
He saw his friends, and he crawled away.
--Adapted by Mel's Desk from Yakaberry.com

Inspired by Flannel Friday - Five Little Bats

Happy Halloween, Flannel Friday-ers! My entry this week was inspired by this post from Let the Wild Rumpus Start. I used a bat from OpenClipArt.org as a template. The details are all made from puffy paint. Thanks for the great idea, Miss Sue!

Five Little Bats
Sung to: "Five Little Ducks"
Five little bats went on a flight
by the light of the moon one night
Mama bat said squeak squeak squeak swack!
but only 4 little bats came back.
Repeat for 4,3,2,1

This week's Flannel Friday round up is hosted by Katie. Flannel Friday can be found on Facebook, Pinterest, and at the FF blog.

Flannel Friday - Five Little Robots

Happy Friday, everyone! My post this week was inspired by Cate's song Five Little Robots. I was hunting for robot songs to use in my storytime, and she saved the day! I changed the wording slightly to fit, but I've provided her original lyrics down below.

The clip art came from openclipart. The robots are laminated and each has a magnet glued to the back.

Five Little Robots
Hank has 5 little robots in his shop this week.
This one’s microchips are fried,
and that one sprung a leak.

Hank will give this one a look-see,
He’ll know just what to do,
And when this robot leaves Hank’s shop,
It will be as good as new!

(repeat with 4, 3, 2, and 1)

--Cate at Storytiming

Inspired By Flannel Friday

It's Friday! This week I have two inspired bys to share: Five Hoot Owls and Five Dirty Pigs.

Five Hoot Owls
Five hoot owls sitting in a tree
One flew away! How many do you see?
One, two, three, four.
Four hoot owls sitting in a tree
One flew away! How many do you see?
One, two, three.
Three hoot owls… etc.
 --Leah from Sunflower Storytime

Leah has a nice printable template available for this song, too. Thanks Leah!!

Five Dirty Pigs
Five pigs so squeaky clean
Cleanest you’ve ever seen
Wanted to go outside and play
Oink! Oink!
One jumped into the mud
Landed with a big THUD
Then there were four clean squeaky pigs.
--Melissa from Mel's Desk

Alternately, you could use this song:
Five Little Piggies
Five little piggies rolling in the mud.
Squishy, squashy, felt so good!
Then along came the farmer,
who took one for a bath.
Continue to one little piggy

Angela is hosting the roundup today at her blog ValleyStorytime. Catch up with the gang at our Facebook page, and hang out with us on Pinterest!

Inspired By Flannel Friday - Things That Go

Here's a Flannel Friday Two-fer! Both were inspired by other Flannel Friday-ers.

The first is "Where Does This Go?". Andrea at rovingfiddlehead kidlit came up with this excellent game. Place the vehicles in the incorrect spot, and the kids will have loads of fun telling you that you're wrong.

The next is from Katie at Recipe for Reading. I've change the wording a little, but the premise is the same. I printed out the train outlines from Crayola's website onto colored paper, then laminated them and cut them out. I taped popsicle sticks to the back. I used these with all three groups, changing it a bit for the preschoolers to make it a bit more difficult. I taught them the ASL sign for each color before we sang the song.

Going for a Ride In My Train
Sung to: Ten Little Indians
Going for a ride in my little ______ train
Going for a ride in my little ______ train
Going for a ride in my little ______ train
Chugga, chugga, chugga, chugga
Choo, choo!
Insert color of train.
